George Chaffey was a civil engineer who profoundly influenced the growth of Southern California. Chaffey was particularly instrumental in developing Ontario, Upland, Riverside, and Corona, California.  The town of Upland has a statute of George Chaffey in its Civic Center Plaza.  Chaffey's influence extended to municipal electric systems.  His pioneering electrical system at Etiwanda led Los Angeles to hire him to install its first street lights. He eventually became president and engineer of the Los Angeles Electric Company.  In 1910, Chaffey also founded the town of Manzanar.  This George Chaffey autograph check image is a wonderful display piece that generates interest and convsersation.
