Edward Upton from Salem, Massachusett, served as a currier in the Civil War.  Upton enlised in the Union Army on September 20, 1861 as a Sergeant and mustered into the "2nd" Company MA sharpShooters.  He was discharged for disability on January 29, 1863.  On January 5, 1864, Upton was mustered into "B" Company MA 59th Infantry.  Upton was wounded May 6, 1864 at the battl;e of the Wilderness, Virgina.  He was wouned June 17, 1864 in battle in Petersburg, Virginia.  His promotions included 1st Sergeant and 1st Lieutenant on August 6, 1862.  This data is derived from
