Elwood Woody English was an All-Star shortstop who played for the Chicago Cubs (1927-1936) and Brooklyn Dodgers (1937-1938). English played in in 1933 All-Star game and led the National League in games played in two seasons. After his professional baseball career, English coached the Grand Rapid Chicks of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League to a championship.
