Great Western Cereal Company
The Great Western Cereal Company was organized in 1901 by O.C. Barber. The company was loacted on he southeast corner of Broadway and Mill streets in Akron, Ohio. In 1911 Quaker Oats purchased the Greatv Western Cereal Company. Two years later the company made the round oatmeal box that became recognizable around the world as Quaker Oats. The famous Quaker logo of the Quaker Man was produced in 1946 by commercial artist Jim Nash. Finally, in August of 2001, the Quaker Oats company was acquired by PepsiCo, crearing the fourth larges consumer goods company in the world. PepsiCo includes a diverse arrany of products that includes Pepsi, Gatorade and Frito-Lay chips. The story of how Robert Cade invented Gatorade is described here.
