Hazel Court Taylor is known as the Horror Queen for her memorable roles in horror films. Court grew up in England where she attended the Birmingham Repertory Theatre and the Alexandra Theatre. Her early parts in film began in 1944. Her first part in a fantasy feature was in Ghost Ship from 1952. Within two years Court had a major part in the cult classic Devil Girl from Mars. She is appeared in The Curse of Frankenstein.
Her status in the horror genre was imprinted with appearances in four episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents. Court's cult status skyrocketed to new heights with appearances in The Premature Burial, The Raven, and The Masque of the Red Death. She particularly enjoyed working with costar Vincent Price in the latter two movies.
Court was recruited for brief appearances in the third Omen movie and The Final Conflict. Her reputation as a legend of horror and science fiction added to the credibility of these movies. She also had roles in many television programs including Dr. Kildare, Burke's Law, and The Twilight Zone.
From 1949 until 1963, Court was married to Irish actor Dermot Walsh. From 1964 until his death in 1999, Court was married to American actor and director Don Taylor, the original "father" in Father of the Bride.
Although Court was proud of her contribution to Hollywood, she was also an extremely talented sculptor. She traveled to Italy to obtain exquisite marble. Her sculpted pieces are collectors items that are coveted by galleries across the world.
Hazel Court was a Renaissance women. Her mark on the arts will endure for generations to come.
