Jack Dempsey Autograph

Jack Dempsey was one of the greatest athletes in the history of boxing. Jack Dempsey often won fights with men men 10-25 pounds heavier than him.  He is considered one of the greatest athletes in the history of boxing.  A Jack Dempsey autograph is a knockout. The life of Jack Dempsey as been chronicled in television and movies. Dempsey was born in Manassa, Colorado on June 24, 1895.  In the 1920s Dempsey began his boxing career in the small mining towns of Colorado using the name Kid Blackie.  His outstanding record and reputation as an exceptional boxer earned him the nickname of The Manassa Mauler.  Dempsey often knocked out his opponents within minutes after the beginning of a fight.  In 1927,at Yankee Stadium, Dempsey knocked out renown prize fighter Jack Sharkey.

Dempsey's match with Jess Willard was amazing.  Willard was so much larger than Dempsey and onlookers considered it a gross mismatch and certain defeat for Dempsey.  His win over Willard catapulted him to even greater fame and recognition.  However, in 1926, Dempsey was defeated by Gene Tunney in a stunning upset.  The largest paid audience in the history of boxing watched this match. Many of Dempsey's fights set financial and attendance records, including the first million dollar gate.  A rematch of Dempsey and Tunney proved unfavorable for Dempsey.

Dempsey retired from professional boxing in 1927.  In 1932, he costarred in a movie with Myrna Loy called The Prizefighter and the Lady.  One year later he opened a restaurant in New York City where he entertained his many guests with autographs and photos.  His successful restaurant was located in the Times Square area of New York City.  His legendary Broadway Restaurant finally closed in 1974.

Dempsey will always be remembered for his contribution to boxing.  In 1954, he was elected to the International Boxing Hall of Fame.  His boxing records and legendary status will remain for many years to come.  Surprisingly, Jack Dempsey autograph are uncommon.  The few that do surface are seen on his books and his restaurant menus.
