Irish born James McHenry is familiar to many Americans by the Fort named after him in the Baltimore harbor. Fighting between British and American troops inspired Francis Scott Key to write the "Star Spangled Banner." McHenry served as private secretary to George Washington and Lafayette. He also served as Secretary of War in the cabinet of George Washington.
