Jesse Root Grant was the father of United States President Ulysses S. Grant. Jesse Root Grant was appointed Postmaster of Covington, Kentucky by President Andrew Johnson. Jesse Root was named after a Chief Justice of the Superior Court of Connectuicut who was also from Covington, Connecticut. His first child, born in 1822, was Ulysses Simpson Grant who would later become a famous general for the Union Army during the American Civil War. Although Jesse worked primarily as a tanner, he also had jiobs as a butcher and construction worker.
