John Ford of Ford's Theater signed this receipt for the princely sum of $1,000. Algthough Ford was a successful author and theatrical agent, he will be remembered most for his association with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln was assassinated while watching a play at the Ford Theater in Washington, D.C. Although Ford claimed that he was not part of the Lincoln conspiracy, he was arrested and incarcerated in prison. He theater was seized by the U.S. government and is now registered in the National Park Service. A John Ford autograph is a sober memento of a tryng time in American history.
