John Scopes was the famous defendant in the Clarence Darrow - Wiiliam Jennings Byran Monkey Trial. Scopes was convicted of violating state law for teaching the theory of evolution expoused by Charles Darwin. After the trial Scopes avoided the public limelight and retired to Louisiana. To our knowledge, it is the only Scopes check in existence.
