Jonathan Trumbull signed check to David Hoasck. Trumbull was the son of Jonathan Trumbull of Connecticut. Trumball witnessed the Battle of Bukner Hill from Roxbury, Connecticut. His Battle of Bunkers Hill paintig was one of his greatest works. His sketch for "The Declaration of Independence" was made at the home of Thomas Jefferson on the Grille de Chaillot in 1786. He also painted one of the best known portraits of Thomas Jefferson and George Washington. George Washington appointed him Aide-de-Camp. Trumbull also served as secretary to John Jay while he negotiated "Jay's Treaty" in 1794. Trumball had only one eye, the other eye lost as a child. David Hosack attended Alexander Hamilton on the field where he was shot in a duel with Aaron Burr. David Hosack was a man ahead of his time. He was a dynamic and often controversial figure in the practice and teaching of medicine in NYC during the late eithteenth and early nineteenth centuries as well as a leader in its social and cultural life. Hosack was Professor of Botanu in the Colubia College Medical Faculty from 1795 to 1811. Today he is best known as the man who planted the first public botanical garden in America on the site of what is now Rockefeller Center.
