Josiah Starr (1740-1813) served as Colonel of the 1st Connecticut Regiment in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. This check was a promissory note from Josiah Starr to Samuel Gaylord. Starr did not fulfill his obligation and his promissory note was protested for non-payment. The protest served as a summons for court appearance. Your order consists of reproductions of both promissory note and summons. A wonderful bit of financial history involving an important American military officer.
