Confederate officer Jubal Early led the amazing raid down Shenandoah Valley on his way to Washington. After his defeat, Early fled the country but finally returned to Lynchberg, Virginia where he signed this check.  Early graduated from West Point and pacticed law in his hometown.  His writings of the Civil War provide important documentation for historians.  Early's autograph is one of the most coveted of the Confederate soldiers.
