Marguerite Alice LeHand, also more commonly known as Missy LeHand served Franklin Delano Roosevelt as his private secretary for over 21 years. Some historians believe that she was also his mistress. LeHand lived with the Eleanor and Franklin Roosevelt in their residences in Manhattan and Hyde Park. LeHand also had a private apartment in the White House. LeHand organized Roosevelts social calendar. She had signed legal documents since she had poer of attorney. LeHand also wrote checks on behalf of Franklin Roosevelt to pay his bills. After a devastating stroke that impacte her speech and ability to walk, FDR paid her medical bills, arranged for treatment at Warm Springs, and even provided for her welfare in his last will. This autographed letter is to Cornelius Greenway, an early autograph collector who assembled one of the largest collections in the hobby.
