In 1893 Caleb Bradham, a young pharmacist from New Bern, North Carolina, experimented with a new drink formulated with water, sugar, vanilla, oils and nuts. Five years later the name of the drink was changed from "Brad's Drink to "Pepsi Cola." The 1898 Pepsi trademark was filed with the U.S. Patent office and the Pepsi-Cola Company was officially born. In 1941, Pepsi's stock traded on the New York Stock Exchange for the first time. The first bottling franchises were established in North Carolina. This check is representative of the bottling franchise established in Louisiana.
