Revolutionary War hero who participated with Alexander Hamilton in founding the Society for Establishing useful Manufactures.  In 1796, he superintended the activities of the Western Inland Lock Navigation Company, the forerunner if the Erie Canal.  Peter Colt was the grandfather of gun inventor, Samuel Colt.
