Robert Garrett was a fabulously wealthy businessman who was known as the Last First Olympian. He earned that distinction because at his death he was the sole survivor of the thirteen American athletes who had traveled to Athens in 1896 for the first of the modern Olympic Games. Garrett personally financed the trip to Athens for himself and several of his fellow athletes. Garrett served as trustee of Princeton University and Johns Hopkins University. The investment banking firm of Robert Garrett & Sons was founded by his great-grandfather and namesake. Robert Garrett autograph keepsakes are wonderdul display pieces. This reproduction would look great in an album or display.
