Hayes was a widower when he died. As he died, Hayes said to his son, "I know that I am going where Lucy [his late wife] is." Rutherford's short Last Will left his Spiegel Grove estate in Ohio to his children with the stipulation that nothing was to be divided or sold unless agreed upon by all his children. Rutherford's Last Will is a fascinating insight into the life of a president who withdrew the last federal troops from the South following the Civil War, and set forth American policy that resulted in the Panama Canal. This reproduction would look great in an album or display.
