Samuel Nelson was appointed Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court by President John Tyler. Hardly ever in the history of the Supreme Court has a judge failed so miserably. Nelson opposed issuance of paper money by the federal government and tried to exempt federal workers from paying income tax. But his perpetual infamy was sealed when he concurred with Chief Justice Roger Taney in the Dred Scott decision. Nelson even looked like Roger Taney! Samuel Nelson autograph mementos make great display pieces.
