Smith Lemon Banking played a significant role is the establishment of Acworth, George and its recovery after the Civil War. The bank was founded in 1853 in Georgia as Cobb County's first bank. The Lemon House on Willis Street in Acworth, Georgia served as military headquarters for Union General William T. Sherman in June 1864. Sherman burned and utterly destroyed almost the entire town of Acworth. The Smith Lemon Banking Company helped rebuild Acworth after the Civil War.
