Thomas Tudor Tucker served in the South Carolina House of Representatives and in the Continental Army as hospital surgeon. Born in Bermuda, Tucker received his medical education at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. He practiced medicine in Charleston, South Carolina and served as the personal physician to James Madison. Tucker was a representaive from Carolina in the Continental Congress. In 1801, Thomas Jefferson appointed Tucker as United States Treasury Secretary. Tucker served as US Treasurer in the adminsitrations of Presidents Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe and John Quincy Adams.
