Thomas Walsh emigrated from Ireland, penniless and homeless. While speculating as a miner in Montana he discovered a gold mine and became spectacularly wealthy. This check is from the Camp Bird mine in Colorado which produced $5,000 worth of gold each day. His daughter, Evalyn, acquired the Hope Diamond in 1911 for $180,000. Soon afterwards, her son and daughter suffered accidental deaths. The diamond was acquired by Harry Winston who donated it to the Smithsonian Institution in 1958. This Thomas Walsh autograph check reproduction would look great in an album or display.
