This check from Nicholas Low to William Duer is endorsed on the back by Duer. A Revolutionary War leader, Duer also signed the Articles of Confederation. He founded the Bank of New York and served as Assistant Treasury Secretary under Alexander Hamilton. Duer became involved in land speculation and used inside information from the Treasury Department for personal gain. Duer's downfall led to America's first financial scandal and the founding of the stock exchange on Wall Street. This reproduction would look great in an album or display.
