William Wisteris considered the Father of American Cricket.  A graduate of the University of Pennsylvian in 1843, Wister then studied law and obtained admittance to the Pennsylvania bar in 1849.  He practed law in Philadelphia for over sixty years.  Wister also served as Treasurer of the North Pennsylvania Railroad Company.  In 1864, he participated in the Civil War as lietenant colonel of the 20th Pennsylvania Volunteers.

Wister is probably best remembered for founding the Junior Cricket Club at the University of Pennsyvania in 1842.  This was the University's first athletic club and the first Cricket Club in America to be made up of Americans.
