Nicknamed "Old Fuss 'n Feathers, " Winfield was the military genius behind the War of 1812. Not only was he the principal architect of the victory in Mexico (which added the entire Southwest and California to the U.S.), but he originated the ingenious Anaconda Plan that effectively blocked the Confederate ports in the Civil War.
